Kathe Kollwitz - Death and Tragedy (1925)
Kathe Kollwitz:
- She was born in Russia, and was the fifth child in her family.
- She enrolled in a Art School in Berlin.
- She witnessed the death of many of her siblings, and therefore suffered from anxiety, a theme that greatly influenced her work.
- Her first home she brought was bombed in WWII.
- She started as a naturalism artist, but changed to expressionism. She painted about the victims of WWII.
- She used wood cut techniques a lot in her work, and wanted to help less fortunate people by painting about them.
